About SSK
Office
On March 5, l974, an office was established for SSK at the Institute for Reactor Safety of the Technical Control Association (IRS) in Cologne. Based on an agreement between IRS and the Federal Ministry of the Interior, its tasks are performed in the interest of SSK and that of its committees. After the Society for Reactor Safety (GRS) had been instituted on 1 January, l977, the SSK office was taken over, based at the same conditions. Upon the foundation of the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS) on 1-11-l989, the SSK-office was annexed to that Federal Office. The office's expert function is not bound by BfS directive. Rather, in regard to type, extent and priority of its tasks, and within the scope of work assigned to SSK, it is under the expert directive of the SSK-chairman. Within the scope of the tasks of SSK, the office may also be assigned tasks by the competent Federal Ministry.
Within the scope of an extensive organization and professional coordination of all issues concerning SSK, its committees and working groups, the office performs the following tasks:
- Preparation and processing of all sessions, particularly agendas and invitations, as well as their distribution.
- Professional support in the preparation and compilation of documentation and information for advisory assignments.
- Evaluation of results from consultations and preparation of protocols.
- Participation in the factual and editorial preparation of recommendations and drafts of guidelines.
- Performance of administrative tasks for SSK, its committees and working groups.
- Editing of the publications of the Commission on Radiological Protection.
Under the direction of the SSK Secretary, 9 scientific (3 part-time) and 3 administrative co-workers are currently working for the office.
